Two articles on teacher education question the effectiveness of these programs on creating quality teachers and the evaluation processes for these programs. Could it be true that the teacher education program, no matter how rigorous, does not seem to impact
the ability of a teacher to reach the students well after certification? Then why spend $25-30K to become a teacher?
Teacher surveys show that teachers rank their teaching experience, work with colleagues, and life experiences as the reasons for their effectiveness in the classroom, in that order.
If these are the things that make good teachers, then teacher education programs should be required to ensure that these components are the primary parts of the teacher education programs. And, if these are the significant shaping components needed to prepare a teacher to be effective, then how can a teacher become a good teacher through an online program?
