The Myth That There is no Federal Money in Local schools

We often hear that there is no Federal money in our local education system.  This is often heard when Federal mandates are pushed forward and parents or teachers ask where the money is to complete that task at hand.
Some Federal funding in our schools.  This is not an exhaustive list.
  1. NCLB was funded at the Federal level to the tune of $54 billion in 2007
  2. $3 billion is expected to be the increase from preschool to college this year.
  3. The National school lunch program is funded at 50% by the Federal government.
But there is more.  The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a part of the stimulus package, is funded to the tune of $100 billion for education designed to retain and assist teachers is school districts.  This is expected to have retained up to 368,000 school related jobs in the 2009-2010school year.
